whoopie!

I made whoopie pies for the first time. people simply haven’t heard of them over here! you can only get them in harrod’s (in London and £2.50 a pie) or in certain branches of m&s, but I’ve never seen them there!

More sugarcraft!

Just the one, have been making Snow White and the Seven Dwarves so will just post my single figure.

Obi-Wan for those who can’t tell. Just for fun, never for sale.

Argh

Can’t post a saved draft from the mobile (non-ipod/iphone) skin. or even publish a blog!

It just shuffled Prince (Delirious), Cher (Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves) then Foo Fighters (My Hero), wrapped up in a bow of Court of King Caractacus by Rolf Harris! I enjoy the whole share-playlists-without-buying-music-you-hate aspect of things :)

S is for

Well, I’ve been banished upstairs while my parents (and accountant/sister) talk to someone about something insurancy or something of the like. Apparently, my taped-up glasses don’t give a good impression! The very idea!

haha wut

So, while I’m up here with the laptop, I’m going to blog. A blog about food. More specifically sandwiches, sushi and sugarcraft. Mmm alliteration :)

Since the beginning of Jan I’ve been attending sugarcraft classes with my mum. No accreditation or anything fancy like that, just a taster on the shaping of coloured lumps of icing. IT IS AWESOME. I love it. Every week I look forward to what we’ll be doing next! Here’s what I’ve done so far:

week 1: elephant, mouse, puppy, dolphin.

week 2: fisherman on a rock, octopus with a top hat and moustache!

week 3: fisherman from the week before, with a huntsman/gamekeeper. also made a fox at the end of the lesson, but haven’t taken a photo of it!

week 4: snowdrops. no pictures as mine were terrible! onwards and upwards to…

week 5! bunny on an iced cake board. finished him today aka

week 6! i also added a ribbon

…and had a first attempt at a grey teddy

he’s textured with a toothbrush, but he’s not that great. Giving it another go next week! Some of the class are moving on to daffodils and tulips, some are doing a bride and groom… I think I’ll give this another shot!

So, anyway, after that voyage of discovery that was sugarcraft, I’ll now go on to sushi.

I love making sushi. Well, loved. It was my job for pretty much a year in 05/06, and it was so very awesome. I worked at the Yo! Sushi in Leeds, and I miss making those maki (and nigiri, and handrolls, and ISO…), to the point where I made some for friends about a year ago, but had to buy all the ingredients and didn’t get any money for it, so was a bit of a pain! Yeah I love making it, but if people are just going to eat it and not give anything back when it’s so damn expensive I’m just not going to do it any more! Alas, my family aren’t all that big on the sush, so that’s a skill down the drain! Don’t really have any pictures of my sushi rolls etc, but hey, hundreds of people thought it was damn good when they ate at Yo!

Onto my third and final S – sandwiches. I’ve been inspired to include this by a sandwich I had earlier today. It was brown bread, a bit of “butter” spread, some “German salami with cheese crust” and “German cheese with German ham”. Basically sausage wrapped in cheese, with cheese with chunks of ham in it! It was crazy delicious, as you can imagine. But it got me thinking – what is my favourite sandwich? For that, unfortunately, I have no answer, but I’m going to have a lot of fun finding out! TTFN, I’m off to have a cheese and onion sausage, egg and chip sandwich on brown :D

sigh

well. just, sigh. people are leaving work too quickly. too many too soon. first it was Seyi, then Tai and Erik, then Jimmy announced he was bringing his own leaving date forward by two days, meaning three of my team left on Monday. my team aren’t just my team, we’re friends. we’re an odd little family. an odd little family that lost two members and its leader in one day. it hit me when I left work. I cried all the way from outside work to the bus stop, which is the length of Leeds city centre. all too much too soon. it’s like we’ve lost a limb. everything was off-kilter today. our old tl is back from maternity leave on Monday, while she’s been gone we had three different replacements. before her we were passed around like a hot potato. we’re a pretty self sufficient family. I went out tonight for a “one last drink before a lot of people go”, left early. sure it was fun being out with other people from different teams but it was tinged with sadness and knowing that it might be the last
